Epilepsy is treated through two methods, medication and surgery. Both have successful ways of treating the neurological disorder and can impact the patient in many ways. Both can have risk factors but will give you a positive affect in the end, whatever treatment is chosen.

Medication A Majority of epileptic seizures are treated by medication and there are many drugs to treat the different types of epilepsy's and seizures. Identifying the type of epilepsy is critical and the first step to treating patients. The choice of drug is considered from factors like patients illness, tolerance and medication's delivery method. 70% of patients seizures are controlled from medication

All drugs including drugs to treat epilepsy come with side effects. Side effects depend on size of dose, medication and length of treatment. Ask your family doctor for information if needing to take medication. LENGTH OF EPILEPSY TREATMENT: Every patient is different, some are taken off of medication in a year, some a couple years and some are never taken off. Patients are evaluated by the specific seizure diagnosed, amount of time seizure-free, and more. Patients who are 10-years seizure-free are discontinued from their medication. Surgery |
Briviact: One of the most common drugs used to treat epilepsy. It was developed in 2016 and can be used by age 16 and older. Possible side effects are dizziness, fatigue, nausea and vomiting.
